Auditions: Monday, February 28, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Monday, February 28, 2011.

On the Portland Auditions Blog, we have had a month of very interesting discussions in the chat box. As we come to the end of the month, I wanted to revisit a brief discussion that we had in the chat box regarding working for little or no pay. An article is circulating the world of Facebook, and I felt it was worth mentioning. This well written article reviews situations we typically encounter as artists, and outlines when it may be okay to work for no monetary compensation.

I look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts and feedback on this!

If you are a fan of the blog, please share this with actor friends. If you have any feedback for me on how to improve my blog, share this with me so that I may work on improving the blog.

Thanks.

REUNION seeks male lead!

During the weekend of their ten-year reunion, four old friends and their respective others are trapped in a house by the man they allegedly assaulted in high school.

REUNION is a micro-budget production. Funds were raised via a successful Kickstarter campaign and are very limited. This will most likely be unpaid unless we are able to raise more funds.

Character Breakdown / Project Needs
JASON LASBY - Lead. 28. Married to Rachelle (played by Alison Monda Posner). He also works in education, on an administrative track. Destined to be a principal -- if his own school misdeeds don't catch up to him first.

Jason has the most screen time in the movie and spends a lot of it alone. The cast actor should be prepared for lots of shooting without other actors working opposite him.

Project Begins Aug 1, 2011
Project Ends Aug 31, 2011

A student feature film seeking actors

We are looking for two main male actors, in their late teens to early twenties, as well as some minor roles for a student feature film production that will be filmed in Seattle for 20 days between late March and mid-May.

Open auditions will be on Saturday, February 26th from 12-3pm.
Call backs are the following day on Sunday, February 27th from 12-3pm.

The location will be sent to you once you email us.

Here’s a film synopsis and character breakdown:

“Blackhat” is a feature film that will be produced by the students of the University of Washington. It is a Story of a young man (College Undergrad) who, being an involved member of this generation, falls into the world of technological addiction, dependency on electronics, and eventual computer hacking. As he delves into the computer driven world, he finds himself conflicted between two realities: technological and natural. This confusion is brought about by the love interest of a girl who is driven by natural beauty, and is not familiar with the central protagonist’s other self (the hacker). She shows him the beauty of social interaction, living free, and being a present part of society. The world is visceral, light, and colorful when he is with her, but can he manage the two realities?

Character breakdown:

Principal roles:

David– Around18-22 years-old, any ethnicity. A Somewhat plain, genuine person, excited about becoming a man and growing and developing a personality of his own. Falls in love with Saren, and gets involved in underground hacking under the mentorship of Jason.
Jason – Around 19-23 years-old, any ethnicity. Jason sways with arrogance, confidence, and intelligence; likewise, he’s a cool-minded guy that only becomes frustrated or angry when he is opposed or debated. He’s a leader and the most persuasive character in the life of David throughout the plot. He will mold David into the hacker he wants him to be. He polarizes everything Saren is.

Minor roles:

Mother – In her 40s-50s, any ethnicity. She’s David’s mother. She’s very attached to her son.

Ben- Around 22-25 years-old, any ethnicity. He’s Saren's friend that is two years older. He has a little place with Matt, and hosts a couple of parties and invites Saren to. David, in turn attends by Saren's invitation.

Matt- Around 20-25 years-old, any ethnicity. He’s Ben’s housemate. He has a little thing with Tricia.

Unfortunately because this is a student film there will not be any monetary compensation, but food will be provided and actors/extras will receive credit and a copy of the finished work.

Sophocles' Ajax

Ajax, maddened by Athena and the prolonged Trojan War, seeks revenge on the Greek army only to have his rage turned against himself and those closest to him. This modern adaptation of Sophocles' The Ajax explores the brutal effects of war on the soldiers and families who serve. On and off the battlefield, friends become enemies and honor brings infamy for a reluctant hero. Colored with elements of Homer's The Iliad and Ovid's Metamorphoses, writer, Todd van der Ark, and director, Linda Lombardi, bring this classic story to life through modern language, while maintaining the eloquence of Sophocles' original.

Project dates:
Tentative rehearsal start date: Sat, March 26th. Rehearsals will be weekday evenings and weekend days with hours tbd at this time.

Show runs from Fri, Apr 29th thru Sat, May 21st with performances on Friday & Saturday nights & Sunday matinees.

Audition Wind In The Willows - Sky Performing Arts Monroe

Sky Performing Arts in Monroe, WA is excited to hold auditions for our
upcoming musical show, The Wind in the Willows, adapted by Terry Simon and
Greg Norgaard from the book by Kenneth Grahame.

The Wind in the Willows is a treasured children's story where loveable river
creatures come to life and teach us lessons of friendship, loyalty and fun.
In a pastoral English setting we see fun-loving Rat teaching
down-to-business Mole the value of "simply messing around with boats," wise
Badger helping daring, crazy Toad see that a true friend tells the truth
even when it's hard to hear, and we learn that you never can trust a helpful
Weasel.

Robin Hilt will make her directorial debut for SPA with The Wind in the
Willows. She has performed in SPA's In the Mood for the last four years.
She has also been the Creative Arts Director at Monroe Community Chapel for
seven years and has directed or produced many programs, events and children
and youth music camps in that time.

With over 20 roles and 10 main characters, we will be casting a wide range
of individuals-men and women, including the main river characters with
animal affects (Rat, Mole, Otter, Badger, Toad, Weasel) and a number of
human characters (Waitress, Dining Couple, Judge, Clerk, Cops, Prisoners,
Jailer's Daughter, Railroad workers). Some minor roles may be doubled. We
prefer actors to be at least 14 years old; any British accent is a plus but
not a requirement. There are also singing and non-singing roles (All main
characters sing.)

Auditions will be held on March 7 at 7:30 p.m. and March 8 at 7:00 p.m. at
Sky Valley Educational Center at 17072 Tye Street SE, #B, Monroe, WA.
Callbacks will be March 9 at 7:00 p.m. Please come prepared with a
one-minute comic monologue and a 16-bar song (with CD or acapella). You
will also be asked to do a cold reading.

Rehearsal will begin on March 21st, Monday through Thursday from 7-10 p.m.
Performance dates are May 6-8, 13-15 and 20-22nd. Depending on the cast, we
may lighten the rehearsal schedule during Spring Break, April 4-8th.

Casting 8-9 y/o girls for commercial

I am casting five cute 8-9 year old girls for a 60 sec commercial that I am submitting to a contest. Shoot will be simple

and fun at a Seattle Park. There are no on-camera lines, but I will be recording simple lines off-camera for the voice

over. This would be perfect if your daughter has 4 cute outgoing friends who would like to participate. The commercial is

for a doll, but mostly involves the girls looking confident and delivering lines about what they want to be when they grow

up. Should take about 2-3 hours for filming and recording.

I am hoping to shoot this Saturday or Sunday morning. I can pay each girl $10 plus a copy of the finished piece, with an

additional $20 each if we happen to win a prize.

If interested, please email with a photo and your contact info, and your availability.

Thanks!

Looking for Cast/Crew Help

International 48 Hour Film Challenge

WHAT'S GOING ON:
Team Awesome Seattle is a film collaborative that invites new people
to get involved in the filmmaking process, work with new people, and
have a good time while we learn! This time we are throwing down on
the International 48 Hour Speed Film Competition coming up this
weekend.

WHAT IS THE STORY:
We can't do any script writing ahead of time but what we would like to
do is to make up a very large group of people what will be hell-bent
on spreading the "Go Green" spirit their own way (which is the theme
this year). With this mob we can fabricate a story around that
criteria we are given. As with most speed film competitions we will be
given a character, line of dialogue, prop, and theme to work into the
story that we generate.

CAST HELP!
Looking for energetic leads and any other cast to make a mob of
extras! The game plan is to form a large energetic group to help us
rock this city! Flash Mob style, but with acting rather. Depending on
your role, we will probably just need you Saturday! No acting talent
required, just RSVP and just us know if you are available!

CREW CALL!
We need a bit of everything, so let us know if you are available to
help! Production will take place Saturday and Sunday.

WHEN:
Saturday, February 19 · 10:00am - 3:00pm

WHERE:
Downtown Seattle Area, contact us for details.

RSVP: WE NEED AT LEAST 50 CAST MEMBERS! I think we will treat this
like a kick starter event, so we need to get 50+ people. Therefore, if
we have 50+ the week of the event we will go for the competition and
if we don't then we will drop it. Kind of extreme, but be sure and
bring your friends, family, puppies, whatever so we can hit our mark!
Just RSVP with a message or on the event wall!
