Auditions: Thursday, March 31, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Thursday, March 31, 2011.

Let's continue this chat throughout the week and talk about extra work, student films, and deferred payment gigs. I know that a lot of people have shared their feedback and advice on accepting non-paid work, but how do you feel about deferred payment gigs, where you could possibly do the work if the film has investors involved once they see the final product, or once it hits the film festival circuit. How do you look at extra work, where you are getting visibility on TNT shows, and feature films being shot locally, but you are making minimum wage doing it. Students films have always been encouraged to the actor just starting out because they walk out of it with footage for their reel, but how do you feel about seasoned actors doing student films?

Thanks.

Looking for podcast hosts!

Hello! I am Josh, the Founder and main host for Technothusiasts, Seattle's Premier Geek Podcast Network. Heru (the co-host) and I have been hosting the hand full of podcasts for over a year now. Well, to give us some time back, plus diversify Technothusiasts, I am looking for some new podcasts hosts for a few of the current podcasts and for a new one I want to start. Here is the list with a brief description:

Gear Up – preview/review the latest hardware. If you are interested, please be someone that either buys a lot of hardware or has access to a lot of hardware.

The Database – review software and/or web sites. If you are interested, it would be nice if you would at least have a Mac and a PC so you can review for different platforms.

What the App?! – review apps for mobile devices. If you are interested, please have access to all mobile devices (Android and iOS being the main ones…Blackberry, WebOS, Windows Phone 7 being secondary).

Tentatively, I may look for new hosts for Fitnotech and The Rundown if the right fit comes around. Fitnotech is the podcast about health & fitness and how you can use technology to achieve your goals. If you are someone who is really “plugged in” to that industry, then you might be a good fit. The Rundown is another one I might be looking for someone. Only one person is needed for that. The Rundown is the podcast about the tech news of the past week (like Technothusiasts) but it’s a quick “rundown” of each story in 15 seconds. So let me know if you are interested in that as well.

The other podcast that we don't have yet but I would like to is a podcast about video games, movies, TV shows, comics, etc

I don’t really have strict requirements. You just need to be available on a consistent basis to do this. You need to have a personality. You need to have knowledge and love for the subject at hand. Other than that, the show will be yours. I won’t be involved much with it besides the initial time of getting it going.

By the way, all podcasts have the potential to make money. Through donations and/or sponsorship, that could happen. Don’t expect to make anything right away but if the show is successful, it’s definitely a possibility.

If you are interested, please contact us today!

COLLEKTOR is currently auditioning for A LIE OF THE MIND, by Sam Shepard.

General Information:

Performance dates: September 8 - October 1, 2011, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays with occasional Sunday Matinees

Auditions for A Lie of the Mind will be held Sunday, April 10, from 12pm-6pm.
Callbacks will take place on Monday, April 11, from 6pm-10pm.

Some other general information about these auditions:

* Audition slots will be 15 minutes long and will consist of cold readings (with a reader) from the script. No monologues are necessary.
* We are looking for performers with strong stage credits and we will be highly selective for this effort.
* Collektor will be paying its actors for the run.
* Requests for audition slots will only be accepted via email.
* All actor conflicts and commitments for the months of July, August and September must be declared before any performer is cast. This will be a highly scheduled ensemble rehearsal process, and conflicts will disqualify you from participation. Please do not audition if you have significant conflicts - especially in August.
* Asian actors are encouraged to audition, but all are welcome
* Please bring a headshot and resume to the audition.

Play Synopsis:
A Lie of the Mind, by Sam Shepard is a play in three acts, with a nearly unit set, an emphasis on the dramatic power of music, and an ensemble cast of eight hands. But more than this, it is a darkly humorous, increasingly frenetic examination of two families torn apart by a marriage and brought together by an unspeakable act of violence.

In telling the story of two families who must come to grips with the effects of an act of spousal abuse, the play alternates between Family One (Baylor, Meg, Beth, Mike) and Family Two (Lorraine, Sally, Frankie, Jake) in relatively isolated ways until the momentum of the incident forces the two families to collide in a remote cabin in Oklahoma. In the play, we gradually learn that Jake and Beth are married, and the first scene begins explaining how Jake beats Beth so badly she is hospitalized and suffers brain damage. Each of the family members on both sides are examined in light of this act and their internal family dysfunctions are brought forward and forced to intersect when Jake’s brother (Frankie) visits Beth’s family, and touches off a secondary set of actions that throw Jake and Beth into the maelstrom of the final scene.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

I am shooting a short film in the next few weeks and need 3 male actors between the ages of 25 - 35 to fill the roles.
It's a very short script and should only take a few evenings to complete.
If you are interested in auditioning for a part, email me and I'll send you a scene to read.

I'm paying $100 to each actor and plan on pushing this into festivals when completed.

Auditions: Sunday, March 27, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Sunday, March 27, 2011.

Let's continue to talk about extra work, student films, and deferred payment gigs. I know that a lot of people have shared their feedback and advice on accepting non-paid work, and there have been quite a few heated arguments on PDX Backstage about this in the past, but how do you feel about deferred payment gigs, where you could possibly do the work if the film has investors involved once they see the final product, or once it hits the film festival circuit. How do you look at extra work, where you are getting visibility on TNT shows, and feature films being shot locally, but you are making minimum wage doing it. Students films have always been encouraged to the actor just starting out because they walk out of it with footage for their reel, but how do you feel about seasoned actors doing student films?

This can be a very touchy subject sometimes because I know that filmmakers are not always able to pay, but they are still producing high quality work, while respecting and featuring their actors involved. Share your thoughts, input, and experiences, and let's start in on this topic for next week a few days early.

If you are a fan of the blog, please share this with actor friends. If you have any feedback for me on how to improve my blog, share this with me so that I may work on improving the blog.

Thanks.

Auditions: Friday, March 25, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Friday, March 25, 2011.

Let's continue the discussion for this week - balancing life with an acting career. For those of you who are making a career out of acting, it can be challenging to find time for a social life, family, and friends who are not a part of the acting world. For those of us who pursue acting as a hobby, it can be a challenge to balance a day job with auditions, rehearsing, and filming. Anyone involved with theater knows that rehearsals may be scheduled every weekday, which minimizes time spent with family and friends outside of acting. Those late night shoots happen when convenient for the filmmakers, and can interfere with local networking events.

Whether you are involved with theater or film, how do you balance your social life and sanity with acting work? Some meditate, others give themselves a day each week devoted to family. Let's hear what your tricks are. Please share your thoughts and feedback in the chat box below!

This blog will be updated daily to provide actors work in and around the Seattle area. Also, check out yesterday's post because there were a lot of good opportunities posted.

"Acting Couples" needed for Music Video

Endless Grey is shooting their second music video and is in need of 2 male/female acting couples (it is not a requirement to actually be a couple, just simply to be paired and be able to act as one). Singles may also apply if they are very extroverted and are able to get to know someone quickly and be comfortable acting as a couple with them.

Here is an example of their first video: Endless Grey - "Once Again"
The quality will be much better in this one however, because the videographer was also in the band in the last video so he could not man the camera to get the most accurate shots. This one will also be shot in black and white (and like the last one, 1080p).

The roles are as follows:
Couple #1: Married couple has fun times, but wife ends up dying in car crash, husband is constantly mourning.
Couple #2: Casual date couple that goes out, has drinks, "makes love", guy leaves her, and the girl feels used (we prefer to do a scene with tops off showing outlines of nude bodies, so please be comfortable with that. Only black outlines will be shown in final video however. HOWEVER, please do apply even if you are not comfortable being filmed with your top off).

Clearly, these are very sad roles, so please be able to connect with that sort of emotion.

Please reply to this ad with a brief acting resume, any youtube/vimeo acting links, and headshots/bodyshots (and shirt-off nude shots if possible). Thank you for your interest.

Project description:

“BLACKHAT” is a feature film that will be produced by the newly established Collaborative Film Production. BLACKHAT is a dramatic/thriller feature film that follows the first quarter or semester of a college freshman who falls into the world of technological addiction and eventual computer hacking. As he delves into the computer driven world he finds himself conflicted between two realities: technological and social. This conflict is brought about by the love interest of a girl who is driven by natural beauty. She shows him the beauty of social interaction and living free. The world is visceral, light, and colorful when he is with her. Her presence polarizes the world that the protagonist is brought into by a college-mate. The conflict presents itself in the schism created by the two realities; the resolution is in the choice."

The movie explores themes such as human ambition, consequence, and action in contrast to morality.

We are still looking to fill the role of the lead character, David, and the role of the mother. All the other roles have been cast.

Character Breakdown:

David– Around 18-22 years-old, any ethnicity. A Somewhat plain, genuine person, excited about becoming a man and growing and developing a personality of his own. Falls in love with Saren, and gets involved in underground hacking under the mentorship of Jason, his dorm-mate.

Mother – In her 40s-50s, any ethnicity. She’s David’s mother, and very attached to her son.

Lead male and female needed for a zombie music video!

We are looking for a female lead to play a human in zombie infested music video!

We are also looking for a lead male to play the "lead" zombie. The lead zombie will get the most camera time, and will need to be able to "turn". He will be fading away until he dies, and then he becomes one of the infected!

If you are interested, please reply with a head-shot and portfolio. Please indicate in your email heading what role you are interested in.
If you're applying for the role gruesome, disgusting, dis-formed zombies, please send a picture of you in zombie garb/makeup. We currently do not have a make-up artist, so your own zombie make-up will have to be supplied. We will update you if this changes.

We will be filming Sunday, March 27th in Factoria.

This is a non-paid gig. We will reply to you if we are interested. This will be an excellent acting opportunity for anyone interested in building a portfolio for film, future casting calls, acting, make-up: anything! Looking forward to hearing from everyone.
