Andrews Sisters Gigs (Sept & beyond) (Seattle area)

I've been commissioned to put together an Andrews Sisters act for a September 15th gig. I'm looking for 2 other female singers in their 40s-50s, who sing. Beyond this one guaranteed $200/ea gig, it's a chance to develop a group from scratch that sings for many events, for as long as we wish to keep working; a collaborative effort on all our parts.

Please note: This is a non-traditional casting opportunity. All ethnicities welcomed.

This Sept. gig will be an acapella performance, so I'd like to hear acapella auditions. Sing a portion of two songs that show your natural, easy voice range, with pep and energy. Any portion of any two songs will do. Be familiar with the Andrews Sisters prior to submitting your audition so you know the style and choose appropriate music. Submit your partial song choices in an MP3 format as an email attachment.

Please be a HWP (height/weight proportionate body type) for ease of costuming, as costumes have already been found. Please also be in your 40s or 50s (for blend-ability and commonality), with lots of energy and a LOVE of music, harmonizing, and performing. Don't be timid about working hard to attain that "perfect!" sound. I am looking for alto/mezzos, mezzo/sopranos, belters, cabaret singers, pop sounds with blend-ability, and a familiarity with WWII/Big Band era material. (We'll eventually branch out to include 50's, 60's, pop & Broadway material [many themes to explore], but for now, it's the '40's.) Solos, duets, trios: as much variety to our material as possible. No Stars Here! I'm organizing a year-round performing Trio to market. We already have an agent/manager for marketing and future bookings.

Along with your MP3 recording, send a picture and resume, your contact information, list any other musical/performance skills you have, and your availability for rehearsals. If you think of anything else we should know about you, please share that information with your submission. Those selected for a callback will be contacted and given that June date. Rehearsals to commence soon after callback auditions, a couple times a week. In August, rehearsals may increase, according to how the material is coming along.

Seeking a video presenter for online business tutorials:$20/$40 per hr (Sumner)

We are looking for an articulate person to facilitate our video training/marketing presentations.

Due to the demographics of our target audience, we are seeking someone who looks good in a professional business outfit, that includes a skirt.

These videos will be used in our marketing efforts on YouTube.

We are not seeking a professional model. We would prefer a normal person. If you have an interesting onscreen character this would be nice, but not required. We would be just as happy to find someone who is simply pleasant and is good at reading scripts. If you are fun on screen with a good sense of humor, this would be a plus. Amateurs or students would be welcome as long as you are at least 18 years old.

The subject you will be presenting is very technical, but you would not be expected to understand it. Just be able to read a script clearly.

If you read the script during the presentation, pay will be $20 per hour. If you are able to memorize the script perfectly beforehand, (less than half a page each), pay will be $40 per hour.

There are so many different techniques that actors can utilize to achieve a solid performance. Many local teachers focus on different styles, and some may work perfectly, while others just aren't for you. Whether it's Stanislavsky, Viewpoints, Meisner, or just being you, there is a reason so many people rely on these techniques when focusing on training and improving your acting abilities.

What are some of the techniques you have used in your training, and what have you actually applied when working on set? What works for you, and what doesn't? Sometimes, depending on the role, being a method actor is the best way for me to get a true, honest performance, while others may laugh at method actors and think it's unnecessary to go that far to get a good performance.

Whatever works for you is what you should stick with, but it's always interesting to learn about other actor's techniques, and what your process is to achieve that perfect, natural performance.

Share with us what your process is and what techniques work best for you. Which teachers have you been drawn to that have helped you get that solid performance. Do you use different techniques for different character types? Is your process for film the same as it would be when preparing to perform on stage?

casting several roles for new Seattle web series

Looking to cast a few roles for my new web series. This is a non-union, non-paying gig.

Lucien: M, Caucasian, 35-45, English accent and nudity (in a non-sexual context) required. This character is gay, so you have to be okay with that. Prefer someone tall and lanky, with a brooding, intellectual quality. Very short pieces in multiple episodes that can be shot all on one day or two days.

Lucien's lover: M, Caucasian, 18-30, non-speaking role, one or two episodes. This guy only needs to be effing gorgeous, nothing else required.

Debbie: F, 18-25 but must pass believably for 14 or 15years old. Caucasian or Asian. Must appear in a swimsuit and various other athletic attire. Character is an over-achieving teen who plays every sport there is, and is in every academic club too. But socially a little naïve, of course. Several episodes.

Todd: M, 18-25 but must pass believably for 14 or 15years old. Caucasian or Asian. Must appear in a speedo type, racer's swimsuit. Debbie's brother and partner on their high school swim team. One or two episodes.

Agnes: F, 45-70, Caucasian. Victorian nanny type, English accent required. Stern, weathered, worldly, takes no shit from anyone. Several short pieces in multiple episodes, maybe can be shot all on one or two days.

Auditions: Tuesday, May 24, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Tuesday, May 24, 2011.

Let's get this week's topic of discussion going

As always, if you are a fan of the blog, please share this with actor friends. If you have any feedback for me on how to improve my blog, share this with me so that I may work on improving the blog.

Thanks.

Auditions: Sunday, May 22, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Sunday, May 22, 2011.

As many of us already know, this industry can be very competitive. While you may go into an audition and nail it, you may learn later that they were looking for an actor with blonde hair and blue eyes, as opposed to the gorgeous red hair and dark eyes you were born with.

There are things in this industry that are out of our control when it comes to casting. The things that are in our control are those we should be working on and bettering to ensure we can better our chances of getting cast. The obvious traits in our control are talent, and we have discussed the importance of continuing to take classes and train. The not-so-obvious things in our control focus in on looks.

Many will tell you that maintaining healthy eating habits and a healthy figure are part of the job. In a recent news article, a variety of celebrities were interviewed for tips and advice on how they maintain their killer bods, and it came down to two simple things: nutrition and exercise. Yes, they have money for a nutritionist and a personal trainer, but they also consistently eat the same number of calories everyday, and workout everyday. This helps them stay fit, helps them look healthy, and even helps them keep their skin looking nice and fresh.

There was recently a casting for hand models, and many of us may have looked down at our hands to find scratches, scars, and unkept nails. This is another thing in our control - making sure that from head to toe, we look good for the part we are auditioning for.

It sounds obvious, but in this industry, you are the product, so being the best you is vital.

Maybe it's not as important to maintain your looks, but keeping your mind at ease is sufficient in helping you live a healthy lifestyle, and stay calm and collected when you audition and book those parts.

What do you do to stay healthy, relaxed and at ease, and looking good? Do you whiten your teeth, work out regularly, meditate, do yoga, or even sleep with gloves on to protect your hands? This industry is full of secrets to keep you looking and feeling good, but sometimes it's just as simple as working out, eating right, and doing whatever you need to do to stay grounded and relaxed.

Share your success stories on how you stay on top of looking the best you can and as grounded as you can be.

50's / 60's Surf Style Dancers (female) needed for Music Video (Eastside)

We are shooting a Rock music video for a band local to Seattle this Saturday, May 21st out at Microsoft Studios in Redmond and are in need of 3 additional female dancers. We initially had 6 dancers (Cornish) booked but due to schedule conflicts, 3 cannot make it and we are looking to fill thier spots.

Due to the feel of the song having an old school "surf" vibe, we are looking for dancers who are familiar with, or are experienced enough to learn dances in the style of that era quickly on set. We currently have a choreographer who will be there teaching (as well as dancing) the songs opening and breakdown sequences as well as the freestyle portions throughout. The dances will be along the lines of those famously danced by Lada St. Edmund back in the 60's. Google her if you're not familar with her, she's awesome.

You would be required to be at Microsoft Studios from 10am - 6pm this Saturday, May 21st. We already have wardrobe for you and food and beverages will be provided throughout the day.

**Note: this is unpaid gig but a great opportunity for possible national exposure and an awesome addition to your resume. Once completed, we will be pushing the video to outlets like MTV, VH1, etc...

If you are interested and are experienced at learning choreography quickly, please contact us asap so we can give you further details.

Auditions: Thursday, May 19, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Thursday, May 19, 2011.

As always, if you are a fan of the blog, please share this with actor friends. If you have any feedback for me on how to improve my blog, share this with me so that I may work on improving the blog.

Thanks.
