auditions Phoenix Theatre, Edmonds, WA

The Golden State by Lauren Wilson

Directed by Eric Lewis

Adapted from Moliere’s The Miser.

In her dilapidated Southern California mansion, Gertrude Hopper rules
over her adult children and illegal servants with an iron fist. With a
fortune in her bra and a maternal instinct warped by the profit
motive, Gertrude plans to marry off her son and farm out her
daughter's womb to a wealthy widow. Her plans run aground, however, as
her children make a final, desperate bid for love and independence in
this twenty-first century reinvention of Moliere's classic comedy The
Miser.

Auditions for independent film
"9th Street"

Independent film with great potential

Non-profit-- but possible pay

Award Winning Director

::Note From Director:: ( Crime/Mystery ) 9th Street is a project that has been in the works for the past 2 years. This film dives into the interpretation of "Good and Bad" and how it varies between people. We follow a detective named John Rowe in his attempt to find the man responsible for his brothers death; but in the process he discovers an even more sinister scheme concocted by a mass murderer. Through extensive investigation, John is put to the test in determining what is truly right and truly wrong.

As a film maker-- I've researched a lot of modern and old fashioned detective stories and examined the Noir film style of the 1940's. My goal is to create an "ORIGINAL" style of the typical mystery genre that captures the same essence of excitement and suspense that the classics contained. But I want to revolutionize this style in a way that has never been done before-- with a deeper appreciation for character relationships that engages the audience into the world I've created, as supposed to just solving a simple mystery.

Breakdowns & Sidelines

Main Cast

John Rowe - Lead
Male 27 - 40, ( Any Ethnicity ) RESOURCEFUL, EXPERIENCED free lance detective-- yet very COLD and UNREADABLE with his delivery. He works on his own terms, at his own pace-- and often lies or uses force to get what he wants, a true DIRTY COP at heart. His RESOLVE to find his brothers killer leads him to actions that are UNETHICAL. John has many thoughts and feelings that remain BOTTLED UP inside.Very STERN and QUIET when he wants to be;Yet desperate and UNRELENTING when he needs to be. The death of his brother accumulates a BITTERNESS inside him-- and he, in essence, is a BAD GUY at the very start of the film.

Frank Williams - Secondary Lead
Male 20 - 29, Caucasian, Frank is a police detective, with a strong sense of JUSTICE. He is very DETERMINED in joining John on his investigation for his own reasons. Frank puts on a COURAGEOUS face when he needs to, and sometimes go through with his actions. However, Frank is also very, CONTEMPLATIVE during tight spots, and very FEARFUL of getting mixed up in something bad. At the end of the film-- Frank pulls a 180 and grows BACKBONE, leading into the conclusion of the story.

Lucas Bright - Antagonist
Male, 25 - 35, Caucasian, Forensic scientist-- very QUICK WITTED and PUNCHY with his lines, with a dash of SARCASM.
A like-able character, with a nice brand of HUMOR. But thats just the character "HE'S" playing. In reality-- a very CALCULATING
and CUNNING mass MURDERER, with no remorse or feelings for his victims. A sense of JUSTICE that only a serial killer can feel, and a CHILLING
delivery with each of his lines.

Natalie Stone - Heroine
Female, 23 - 35, ( Any Ethnicity ) Natalie has a MYSTERIOUS air about her. Performing as an unknown SINGER at local bars-- she is BEWITCHING when she both speaks and sings ( dont worry about the singing ) Yet at the same time, she is an UNDERCOVER cop-- who is more than DETERMINED to stop a mass murderer. She relishes AMBIGUITY and prefers to stay HIDDEN-- very EVASIVE of the police for personal reason, this in turn also makes her very PARANOID when she's unsure of the current situation.

Leonardo "Lenny" Castillo - Secondary Antagonist
Male 19 - 29, Son of the Castillo crime family. A RECKLESS man that Thrives on pain and chaos, and literally
celebrates it. Laughs in the process of murder, and enjoys blood-- in other words, he's a MONSTER!

Rick Tailor - Supporting
Male, 21 - 25, ( any ethnicity ), Rick is an INCOMPREHENSIBLE character. He is on the run for a majority of the film--
and is forced to kill someone against his will. He is very PARANOID, and yet very CONCEALED... he knows something...

Walker Andersen - Supporting
Male, 21 - 25, Caucasian, Walker is a very FRIENDLY and HYPERACTIVE friend of Rick Tailors. he is very PASSIONATE in staying connected with friends. Yet when things turn for the worse, he becomes very JITTERY and SCARED of what could happen next.

Katie Madison - Supporting
Female, 20 - 29, Caucasian, Forensic assistant. Katie has a very CHARMING attitude about her, yet in turn she is SAUCY and quick with comebacks.
She has a good sense of HUMOR but is DETERMINED to help catch criminals.

Mitch - Supporting
Male, 45 - 60, Caucasian, A TIMID older man by appearance, but a BUSINESSMAN in all other senses. Mitch is an informant for both sides-- Police and Criminals-- who fronts as an ENGLISH PROFESSOR at a university. Through old age Mitch becomes TOLERANT of people seeking information. He is COMPASSIONATE for a man he calls his son, and UNYIELDING of revealing too much information about him.

Chief Briggs - Supporting
Male, 40 - 60, ( Any Ethnicity ) Briggs is an ODD police chief. PATIENT, UNDERSTANDING, and SOPHISTICATED-- among many other traits that
define "EASY GOING." Yet at the same time, he is IMPENETRABLE and FIRM on not divulging too much information to the protagonist. When he's angry-- he flips the switch, and POWER can be clearly seen and heard through his words.
