Auditions: Saturday, April 30, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Saturday, April 30, 2011.

With Easter just behind us, and Mother's Day next on the main holiday list, I have been very surprised by how many people choose to shoot and rehearse on holidays, especially those centered around family. With a local professional theater company doing a 12 hour tech on Easter, many short films shooting late night scenes on the evening and into the night on Easter, numerous auditions on Easter, and a number of various auditions and film shoots on Mother's Day, I couldn't believe I would be forced to choose between spending time with family and working on a very widely celebrated holiday.

We recently discussed the struggle actors and those involved in the film and theater industry face when working to balance family and a social life with work. This is something I struggled with again as I turned down auditions and paid film opportunities to choose spending this holiday with family instead of on a film set. Would filmmakers shoot on Christmas Day? Maybe...but would you leave your kids and family to shoot for a non paying role in a short film? How about for a paying role?

What are your thoughts on working on holidays? Is this just something that comes with the territory, and did you shoot on Easter, or plan to do so on Mother's day?

Let's open the discussion and chat about your thoughts on working on holidays celebrated by the majority of people throughout the year. Would you choose to work, and what are some reasons you would choose to do so?

As always, if you are a fan of the blog, please share this with actor friends. If you have any feedback for me on how to improve my blog, share this with me so that I may work on improving the blog.

Thanks.

Casting Principle Roles - 30 minute short - Paid positions

The 30 minute short film, */The MarQueen/*, is now casting for principle
roles. These roles will be paid positions. Production will take place
in Seattle (mostly Queen Anne).

*SYNOPSIS:*

_SHORT:_
The coincidence of a new girl and a pending audit at a
hotel/brothel threatens the foundations of the business
and the family that runs it.

_LONG:_
At the MarQueen, a man can get a clean bed, a complimentary
breakfast, premium cable channels and a hell
of a lay. Doubling as a brothel that specializes in fetishes,
this family business is headed by Vera, a matriarch
whose wit sharpens as the weight of the years bears down. No
longer a spring chicken, she has of late become
self-conscious of the two things that matter most to her: her
reign and her appeal. After her son fails to save
one of the girls from an overzealous client, a new girl is
recruited, whose crush on her son Curtis is seen as a
threat to Vera's dynastic mind. To make matters worse, the
family's accountant has caught wind of an approaching
audit of the hotel, and the once solid castle has begun to show
its cracks. These cracks, however, appear to
Curtis as green shoots. After all, his dad Henry the
maintenance guy is obsessed with the idea of him and Vera
retiring to his wife's homeland, Greece, leaving the kingdom to
their son and heir, an option Vera refuses to
consider. With the sudden arrival of Psydney, his future
queen, Curtis' usual ambivalence is transformed into
an unfamiliar sense of purpose as he for the first time
contemplates his impending reign, much to the distress of
Vera. As her grip on the business and herself loosens, Vera's
despair leads to a rash decision that sets in motion
events that will make her rethink the idea of retiring.

Based loosely on the Cupid and Psyche myth, /The Marqueen/ is a
linear narrative set over the course of a couple
of days, and explores how the perceptions of ourselves and
other can lead to outcomes as horrendous as they are
inevitable.

*CASTING CALL:*

Held at *The Cinerama Theater* on 4th Ave. & Lenora, in Belltown,
on *May 8th & 15th from 9am - 11:30am*.

Please bring to the casting call a headshot, resume and a 1 - 2
minute monologue of your choosing (optional).
You will also be doing a cold reading of a part of the script.

If you cannot make either of the casting call dates, please feel free to
get in touch with us with a headshot and
video links to any work.

*PRINCIPLE ROLES:*

/VERA/ ---------------- 50s or 60s; The owner, the Madame. Greek or
Mediterranean features;
strong presence. Similar look
to Anjelica Houston, with a touch of
Lucille Bluth (Jessica Walter).

/CURTIS/ -------------- Late 20s, early 30s; The son of Vera and
Henry. Physically imposing;
brooding; able to purvey
subtle emotional context.

/HENRY/ --------------- 50s or 60s; amiable, but with a screw loose;
meager to average build.
Sharp features, similar to
actor Dick Miller. Rambling mind and mouth,
may or may not be physically
crippled in some way.

/PSYDNEY/ ----------- Early to late 20s; the newest addition to the
brothel. Disarming in her
timidity and beauty. Fair
skin, fits the group but just barely. Something
sets her apart.

/THE BLONDE/ ------ Late 20s, early 30s; leader of the pack. Poise
and look of someone who
has climbed the three rung
ladder of the group.

/THE REDHEAD/ ---- Late 20s, early 30s; follows The Blonde's lead with
veracity. Shorter than
The Blonde and a little bit
less attractive.

/THE BRUNETTE/ --- Late 20s to early 30s; a follower, but the wise one
in the group. Curvy, just
this side of pudgy. Mouth
breather.

/MURRAY/ ------------ 50s or 60s; Vera's crooked accountant. Portly,
but not rotund; sleazy, but
not without a certain charm.
His personality is best represented by the
taxidermied cougar in his
'office'.

/ZORBA / --------------- 40s; gay; runs a nail salon, but reads palms
on the side to satisfy his quasi-
mystical nature. Comic but
not caricature.

*Thank you!* We're very excited for this project and look forward to
seeing Seattle's acting talent!

Female Native Arabic Speaker Wanted (UW Campus Seattle)

A "political" anti-war/anti-government music video is in production. I need a NATIVE Arabic speaker to record a very short voice audio clip that will be mixed into the finished video. I require a woman (because you will be imitating a young girl asking a question of her mother) and it would be an extra bonus if you spoke Iraqi Arabic (or you were familiar enough with the national dialect and accent to pass as Iraqi). The recording will be done with a hand held digital unit (high quality) in some quiet classroom we will hopefully find on the UW campus. The spoken part is about eight seconds long. I will provide the English, you will translate to Arabic and speak the part. I will pay you $50 for your time and talent. You will receive no credits on the video.

This is the easiest $50 you will ever make ;-) But please, if you are politically conservative, or have strong nationalistic or patriotic feeling regarding the USA, this is NOT the job for you. Trust me, you will not want to participate in this project unless you have some genuine anger regarding US foreign policy.

I will be in Seattle the weekend of May 6-8, we can meet on the UW campus at your convenience to get the job done. It will probably take longer to find a quiet room in which to record than it will to make the actual recording. If you are qualified and interested, email me to make an appointment.

Compensation: $50 cash, one time only

As always, if you are a fan of the blog, please share this with actor friends. If you have any feedback for me on how to improve my blog, share this with me so that I may work on improving the blog.

JUVENILE LEAD -- LAST MINUTE REPLACEMENT

Our lead actress pulled out at the last minute and
we need to try to replace her for a shoot this coming
Friday afternoon and all day Saturday in downtown
Seattle.

We need an 11 to 12-year-old girl who makes you
say "street waif" the first time you see her. There
are no lines to learn and the project will be shot
documentary-style. We will go shopping for street
waif attire with our co-stars Wednesday afternoon.

This is a non-paying project but we will supply all
meals, snacks, beverages, parking fees, etc.

Details to individuals we feel fit the role. I can say
that there is a remote possibility everyone in the
film will be seen internationally. No promises, though.

Please try to keep the file sizes small-ish.

Actresses / models needed for CGI / live action short film $75 day (Portland, Oregon)

Local production company is looking to hire a young actress / model for the lead, non-speaking role in a CGI / live action short film.

Our second round of auditions are to be held this coming Saturday - April 30th, downtown Portland, from Noon to 2pm.

The story is entitled, "Both Bitter and Sweet Was Persephone Inside Most Incomplete." It's a tale about a young girl made of chocolate who yearns to escape the candy store where she is imprisoned.

The shoot will take place over a weekend, near the end of May, and will be comprised of 2 days of work. We will be paying $75/ day for the shoot days ($150), although we may need additional, non-paying time, for make-up tests and test-shoots.

There will be no dialogue, as the short film shall be fully narrated.

We are looking for a young girl with an innocent, pretty, and unique face... tall, lean, and graceful, between the ages of 18-25. Hair color is of no consequence. Our target audience is young adults / teenagers... so please don't apply if you do not represent or look the age. Any ethnicity can apply for this role. Modeling / acting experience is a plus.

Please note: There will be full make-up... as we must change the actress / model's skin into a chocolate texture... but only the face, arms, neck and legs. Our SFX artist will be using a synthetic make-up which is non-abrasive, does not dry the skin and does not cause any allergic reactions. We will also be filming on stage with a full greenscreen backdrop as the environment created takes place in a dream-like world.

Please respond to email with resume / photos to receive location information, script and sides.

Compensation: $75/day for two days

Auditions: Monday, April 25, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Monday, April 25, 2011.

Not much today on the audition front, but let's open the discussion and chat about your thoughts on working on holidays celebrated by the majority of people throughout the year. Would you choose to work, and what are some reasons you would choose to do so?

Auditions: Sunday, April 24, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Sunday, April 24, 2011.

Due to some upcoming early morning shoots, I wanted to give everyone a heads up that the daily post time for auditions may vary moving forward.

We have spent some time focusing on finding auditions, audition preparation, and booking the right type of work. No matter how talented and gorgeous you may be, it always comes down to who you know, or rather, who knows you.

The big question of this week is - how does networking play a role in your acting career?

How important is it to make an appearance at local film networking events, and how much does it make a difference in your career? Do you attend any local networking events for theater and film? How has it affected the work you are getting, and how have you grown from networking?

Let's start up this week's chat and discuss your thoughts about networking, attending events, and how this has made a difference in your acting career!

Seeking Experienced STORYBOARD ARTIST for feature

Hello!
We're looking for an experienced storyboard artist to help us turn our
125 page screenplay into a visual experience.

LOGLINE: A young cop must infiltrate the sinister underbelly of a
secret Satanic cult in order to rescue a childhood friend.

We're offering $400.00 for the completed work, though I will work
extensively alongside the artist to guarantee a fluent and accurate
translation from words to picture. The film is an homage to the great
film noirs, and will be using similar lighting techniques and camera
angles, so any relevant experience using or drawing those techniques
will put you at the top of the list!

125 pages will amount to hundreds of panels, so only serious artists
need apply. Anyone who's done storyboards before will know just how
many are required for a film - it's a ton. If you're interested in the
opportunity to visualize and draw a very strong and unusual
screenplay, please send a letter of interest to henrykmovie@gmail.com
with anything you'd like us to know, including your contact info, and
any material you think defines you as an artist. You can also read an
outdated version of the screenplay here - (http://studios.amazon.com/
projects/3715).

Sincerely,
Jeffrey Stillwell

Casting Call for FUN Independent Film

SEEKING a leading role in comedy film “Safety Not Guaranteed”, from the producers of "Cyrus" and starring Jake Johnson, Mark Duplass and Aubrey Plaza. Directed by Colin Trevorrow.
We are casting for a feature film that shoots in May. And we are seeking an actor for one of our leads......Dear Arnau, where are you? It's so fitting that we are seeking you on Craigslist. You fit the following description:

ARNAU- EAST INDIAN MALE, Early 20s. He's a socially awkward brainiac who is working as an intern at a magazine not because he wants to be a writer, but because it will look good on his grad school resume. A student of biology and life sciences, Arnau volunteers for the on-location assignment to research a story about a bizarre ad looking for a time traveling companion found in the classifieds.

He probably has an accent. He really likes online MMOs. Most of all, he wants to be in our movie and is available for most of May. He may or may not have acting experience. He certainly has a sense of humor.

This is a full length, ready to go feature film where you will be paid, fed and treated well. We promise it will be an adventure.

Please reply to the email above and send a photo and letter of interest.

Filming begins early May in Seattle.
