Auditions: Friday, April 08, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Friday, April 08, 2011.

Let's continue our discussion on how to pick the right auditions. What do you look for when selecting work you are interested in auditioning for. Many in the industry are willing to work for free if it is for a friend, or for something that will be great material for our reel, but some people in our community feel they should get paid appropriately for their work.

Honestly, I am always thankful to even just get paid from a gig found outside of an agent, but we all see things differently. What do you focus in on when filtering auditions for work? Do you look for monetary compensation, and weigh out how much work for how much money? Do you ask yourself whether auditioning for the experience and networking would be great in itself? What questions do you ask yourself before submitting yourself for auditions?

I have also read in the chat box that some have experienced inappropriate behavior and actions at auditions. What do you look for in an audition notice to avoid running into a situation like this?

Let's chat throughout the week about what work needs to be done before we even submit ourselves for auditions. What have your experiences been like, and what questions do you always ask yourself?

If you are a fan of the blog, please share this with actor friends. If you have any feedback for me on how to improve my blog, share this with me so that I may work on improving the blog.

Thanks.

JOB: Director of Development (Broadway Bound Children's Theatre)

Broadway Bound Children’s Theatre, Seattle’s leading youth theatre company, with an annual budget of $ 1 million, is in search of an experienced Director of Development. Post begins May, 2011. Interviews are expected to be held in November and will continue until the position is filled.

The Director of Development will report directly to the Executive Director, work closely with the Artistic Director, and collaborate with the Board of Directors to achieve development goals. This Director of Development is a newly created position, established by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. As such, it will require a self-starter, passionate about children’s theatre and Broadway Bound’s mission, and one who is ready to build from the bottom up, working without a dedicated support staff.

The core responsibilities of this post include, but are not limited to:
• Plan, implement, and track an overall fundraising plan for the organization
• Generate unearned income for annual operations via all possible foundation, corporate, and governmental sources, and individual donors
• Create and execute individual giving and major gift campaigns
• Develop a donor database, cultivate and maintain donor relationships, and increase the donor base
• Research and write grant applications and reports
• Produce and manage fundraising events while cultivating community support.

Those interested in applying should have at least five years experience working in performing arts fund raising (preferably non-profit theatre, and ideally in an organization that has a strong focus on children and youth), and a measureable track record of successful fundraising in the arts. The right candidate will also excel in identifying and soliciting gifts, generating grant applications and reports, and managing events. An advanced working knowledge of MS Office, working knowledge of fund raising databases and the ability to generate and understand financial reports, along with excellent writing and organizational skills and exceptional interpersonal skills will help insure success. The ability to build confidence and rapport among donors and a demonstrated passion for the arts and in particular the mission, vision, and values of Broadway Bound are a must.

Reply to: Send a letter of interest with salary expectations and resume to James D’Asaro, Executive Director, Broadway Bound Children’s Theatre, 5031 University Way NE, Seattle, WA 98105, or by email to jim@broadwaybound.org. Please no phone calls.

Red Curtain Seeking Directors

Red Curtain Productions is accepting applications to direct for the 2011-12 season.

Noel Coward's "Blithe Spirit". Performances will be September 23rd - October 9th.
The smash comedy hit of the London and Broadway stages, this much-revived classic from the playwright of Private Lives offers up fussy, cantankerous novelist Charles Condomine, re-married but haunted (literally) by the ghost of his late first wife, the clever and insistent Elvira who is called up by a visiting "happy medium", one Madame Arcati. As the (worldly and un-) personalities clash, Charles' current wife Ruth is accidentally killed, "passes over", joins Elvira and the two "blithe spirits" haunt the hapless Charles into perpetuity.

William Shakespear's "Much Ado About Nothing". Performances will be February 17th - March 4th.
This show is best known for it's brilliant lovers, the dazzling Beatrice and Benedick, who spend the play exchanging insults. It's obvious to everyone but themselves that they are drawn to each other. A younger, less vivacious couple, Claudio and Hero, provide a more romantic and traditional relationship. As well as a good chunk of the plays' mischief. For it is these two which are manipulated by the villain Don Jon, who's evil heart and malicious sense of humor threaten their union. The villain is undone however by a bumbling constable, Dogberry, who without so much as intent manages to bring the mischief to the eyes of the savvier older couple, and ultimately save the day.

Alan Ackbourn's "Bedroom Farce". Performances will be April 20th - May 6th.
Trevor and Susannah, whose marriage is on the rocks inflict their miseries on their nearest and dearest, three couples whose own relationships are tenuous at best. Taking place sequentially in the three beleaguered couples' bedrooms during one endless Saturday night of co-dependence and dysfunction, beds, tempers and domestic order are ruffled, leading all the players to a hilariously touching epiphany. A long-running hit in London and New York.

Auditions and all performances will be at the Historic Everett Theatre at 2911 Colby Ave in downtown Everett.

Prospective Directors should be familiar with the script and are asked to submit a cover letter and resume by e-mail with the show or shows you are interested in in the subject line.

Applicants will be contacted to set up an interview. Application deadline is April 29th, 2011. There is a stipend pay for this job.

PAID - Sound Engineer needed for event video shoot this Saturday 9am - 5pm

Sound Engineer needed for event video shoot this Saturday 9am - 5pm.

This a basic shoot covering an all-day workshop/conference. We will be shooting the presentations, some simple interviews and aspects of the break-out sessions. The event will be held in a medium to large size room and there will be lots of people in attendance. I anticipate some issues with background/crowd noise and I want to make sure to get clean audio of people interacting, particularly during the break-out sessions. I am looking for someone to capture sound and feed it directly into my camera's xlr audio input. We will be moving around the room capturing footage so a light/mobile setup is important.

Pay is $150 for the day.
