Auditions: Saturday, March 19, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Saturday, March 19, 2011.

Let's get a topic of discussion started for this week - balancing life with an acting career. For those of you who are making a career out of acting, it can be challenging to find time for a social life, family, and friends who are not a part of the acting world. For those of us who pursue acting as a hobby, it can be a challenge to balance a day job with auditions, rehearsing, and filming. Anyone involved with theater knows that rehearsals may be scheduled every weekday, which minimizes time spent with family and friends outside of acting. Those late night shoots happen when convenient for the filmmakers, and can interfere with local networking events.

Whether you are involved with theater or film, how do you balance your social life and sanity with acting work? Some meditate, others give themselves a day each week devoted to family. Let's hear what your tricks are. Please share your thoughts and feedback in the chat box below!

This blog will be updated daily to provide actors work in and around the Seattle area. Also, check out yesterday's post because there were a lot of good opportunities posted.

If you are a fan of the blog, please share this with actor friends. If you have any feedback for me on how to improve my blog, share this with me so that I may work on improving the blog.

Thanks.

AUD Audition Notice for "Ruddigore" by Gilbert & Sullivan

The Seattle Gilbert & Sullivan Society, a community theater company celebrating its 57th season, will produce the “melodramatic ghost story” Ruddigore at the Seattle Rep’s Bagley Wright Theatre this summer for 11 performances on July 15-17, 22-24 and 29-30, including matinees on the first two Sundays and on each of the Saturdays.

Ruddigore is a parody of the melodramas that were so popular in the 1880s. It refers to works with an exaggerated plot and characters designed to appeal to the emotions of the audience. Early movies often were melodramatic in nature such as The Perils of Pauline. They featured stock characters like the mustache-twirling villain trying to wile the beautiful but naïve heroine who must be saved by the handsome but not-too-bright hero.

Producer Mike Storie ● Stage Director Christine Goff ● Music Director Bernard Kwiram

Because Ruddigore may not be familiar to many performers, we will hold a “Ruddigore-101” Seminar on

March 21st at 7 PM at our facility* to acquaint people with the various roles and the look and feel of the show.

Auditions for chorus positions plus principal roles will be held on the following schedule at our *Rehearsal Facility at Crown Hill Center, located at 9250 14th Ave NW just off Holman Road, NW. This is north of Ballard. For more information, including callback numbers and directions to our facility, please see our web page at www.pattersong.org.

The audition schedule is:

Saturday April 2 10AM Principals/Supporting (For 5 minute appointments)

Sunday April 3 2PM Principals/Supporting (For 5 minute appointments)

Saturday April 9 10AM Principals/Supporting, Callbacks as necessary

Sunday April 10 2PM Chorus

Please note that there is only one chorus audition scheduled. If you can’t make it, let us know – we will try to accommodate.

Please Note: Some performers will be called back for principal roles. At Callback, please be prepared to perform the songs for the role(s) you are interested in which are listed on our web page. You may, of course, use any of these songs for your initial audition. The appropriate music for songs may be downloaded from the G&S Archive on the web (www.math.boisestate.edu/GaS) There will also be some dialogue reading and simple stage movement at Callback.

Rehearsals start Monday evening, April 25th at 7 PM. This is a mandatory get-acquainted and organizational meeting. A preliminary schedule for the season is included on our web page. You must be able to meet this schedule if you accept a role. This season, all cast members will receive an honorarium to help offset the costs of being in the production.

A huge commitment, but very rewarding.

Reply to: If you are interested in a Principal or Supporting role, please leave a message at 206-682-0796 or send a message to manager@pattersong.org, to select an audition time on one of the dates listed above, stating your name, address, phone, e-mail, which role(s) you are interested in, and on which day and time you prefer to audition. We will get back to you with an appointment.
