Auditions: Monday, May 16, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Monday, May 16, 2011.

As many of us already know, this industry can be very competitive. While you may go into an audition and nail it, you may learn later that they were looking for an actor with blonde hair and blue eyes, as opposed to the gorgeous red hair and dark eyes you were born with.

There are things in this industry that are out of our control when it comes to casting. The things that are in our control are those we should be working on and bettering to ensure we can better our chances of getting cast. The obvious traits in our control are talent, and we have discussed the importance of continuing to take classes and train. The not-so-obvious things in our control focus in on looks.

Many will tell you that maintaining healthy eating habits and a healthy figure are part of the job. In a recent news article, a variety of celebrities were interviewed for tips and advice on how they maintain their killer bods, and it came down to two simple things: nutrition and exercise. Yes, they have money for a nutritionist and a personal trainer, but they also consistently eat the same number of calories everyday, and workout everyday. This helps them stay fit, helps them look healthy, and even helps them keep their skin looking nice and fresh.

There was recently a casting for hand models, and many of us may have looked down at our hands to find scratches, scars, and unkept nails. This is another thing in our control - making sure that from head to toe, we look good for the part we are auditioning for.

It sounds obvious, but in this industry, you are the product, so being the best you is vital.

What do you do to stay healthy and looking good? Do you whiten your teeth, work out everyday, follow strange diets, sleep with gloves on to protect your nails? This industry is full of secrets to keep you looking good, but sometimes it's just as simple as working out and eating right.

Share your success stories on how you stay on top of looking the best you can.

As always, if you are a fan of the blog, please share this with actor friends. If you have any feedback for me on how to improve my blog, share this with me so that I may work on improving the blog.

Thanks.

Casting call for "ODE TO KALI."

Seattle - Washington State.

AUDITION:
Auditions will be held *May 22nd* - please email your head shot(s) and
resume and we will schedule a time and more information on the location. SAG
contract or equivalent plus stipend. Filming will take place in the Puget
Sound on July 15th, 16th, 17th, 23, & 24th. Thank you!

SYNOPSIS:
In “Ode to Kali” a full figured girl fights consumer culture beauty
standards with her poetry superpowers.

Lulu, who wants to “fit in”, gets her sister Pris (short for Priscilla),
queen of consumer culture, to agree to help her improve her image, but only
by promising to do whatever Pris asks of her. Pris decides that she wants
Lulu to win a prize for her at a poetry contest, but Lulu is afraid to since
she knows that poetry gives her superpowers she can’t control. When Pris
humiliates her publicly, Lulu unleashes her powers only to learn that
surrendering to a crowd’s idea about what is cool is even more dangerous
then living under her sister’s rule. In the end, Lulu learns to define
beauty by her own standards.

MAIN CAST

LULU
Physical type:
must be curvaceous and at least 2 sizes larger then Pris. I prefer someone
stacked who is obviously really beautiful.
Performance:
must be able to pursue character goals even when they are frustrated,
insecure, romantically engaged, fearful, sorrowful, furious, sexually
confident, or tender. Must be confident with their body, they will be
performing in lingerie. A strong sense of rhythm is needed. Dance,
particularly burlesque, is a bonus. Long hair also a bonus.

PRIS
Physical type:
must be at least 2 sizes smaller than Lulu. I prefer someone who is slender
but not necessarily gifted with extraordinary bone structure. Straight hair
preferred.
Performance:
Needs to be able to express primarily with voice and body but without moving
their face much. Control is a primary motivator for this character, however
she looses it and collapses emotionally. Must be willing to perform in bra
and panties. This character strips down, but extraordinary grace is not
needed.

RAZOR BLADE
Physical type: Slender to muscular. Must be able to court a woman and read
poetry without losing a tough edge. Main acting challenge is fighting back
physical pain. Willing to cut hair for part.

GAY GUY
Physical type: anyone who can exude "gayness" while pursuing a woman.
Metrosexual

EX CON
Physical type: Haggard or rugged.

HUMILIATION
Physical type: small rat-like; thin.

SWEETIE GUY
Physical type: A complete stud and he knows it.

BALDILOX
Physical type: 40 or older, with thinning or balding hair.

MINOR ROLES

POET

CROWD & JUDGES
Tattoos, piercing, urban subculture. Kind of like you would see at the
Academy of Burlesque recitals.

JUDGES:
Same as crowd but with some academic overtones.

SUPER MODEL:
Young, slender, gorgeous – photo shoot only no acting experience needed
